In 2006 Australia's population was 20.7 million. It is projected to reach 23 million in 2014. What is driving this rapid population growth, and how is the Rudd government dealing with immigration at a time of recession? The diversification of the immigration intake over the last 50 years, from the British Isles to Europe and Asia, is widely recognised. But there is less understanding of the development of Australia's temporary program, which since 2000 is the major component of the immigration intake. Similarly, the development of the global labour market and the impact of this on immigrants have not entered Australian consciousness. The lack of attention to these developments stands in marked contrast to the heated controversies sparked by the arrival by boat of small numbers of asylum seekers. Written by three leading researchers, with its analysis located in historical and international contexts, Australia's Immigration Revolution explains developments of national importance - including ground breaking explorations of ethnic concentration and public opinion.

Immigration and Crime PDF Free

Download Immigration and Crime Free Ebooks in PDF format. Download free ebook of Immigration and Crime soft copy pdf or read online by"Ramiro Martinez, Jr.","Abel Valenzuela, Jr."Published on 2006-07-01 by NYU Press

The original essays in this much-needed collection broadly assess the contemporary patterns of crime as related to immigration, race, and ethnicity. Immigration and Crime covers both a variety of immigrant groups--mainly from Asia, the Caribbean, and Latin America--and a variety of topics including: victimization, racial conflict, juvenile delinquency, exposure to violence, homicide, drugs, gangs, and border violence. The volume provides important insights about past understandings of immigration and crime, many based on theories that have proven to be untrue or racially biased, as well as offering new scholarship on salient topics. Overall, the contributors argue that fears of immigrant crime are largely unfounded, as immigrants are themselves often more likely to be the victims of discrimination, stigmatization, and crime rather than the perpetrators. White Nativism, Ethnic Identity and US Immigration Policy Reforms PDF Free

Download White Nativism, Ethnic Identity and US Immigration Policy Reforms Free Ebooks in PDF format. Download free ebook of White Nativism, Ethnic Identity and US Immigration Policy Reforms soft copy pdf or read online by"Maria del Mar Farina"Published on 2017-09-22 by Routledge

Analysing US immigration and deportation policy over the last twenty years, this book illustrates how US immigration reform can be conceived as a psychological, legal, policy-driven tool which is inexorably entwined with themes of American identity, national belonging and white nativism. Focusing on Hispanic immigration and American-born children of Mexican parentage, the author examines how engrained, historical, individual and collective social constructions and psychological processes, related to identity formation can play an instrumental role in influencing political and legal processes. It is argued that contemporary American immigration policy reforms need to be conceptualized as a complex, conscious and unconscious White Nativist psychological, legal, defence mechanism related to identity preservation and contestation. Whilst building on existing theoretical frameworks, the author offers new empirical evidence on immigration processes and policy within the United States as well as original research involving the acculturation and identity development of children of Mexican immigrant parentage. It brings together themes of race, ethnicity and American national identity under a new integrated sociopolitical and psychological framework examining macro and micro implications of recent US immigration policy reform. Subsequently this book will have broad appeal for academics, professionals and students who have an interest in political psychology, childhood studies, American immigration policy, constructions of national identity, critical race and ethnic studies, and the Mexican diaspora.

Mexican Immigration to the United States PDF Free

Download Mexican Immigration to the United States Free Ebooks in PDF format. Download free ebook of Mexican Immigration to the United States soft copy pdf or read online by"George J. Borjas"Published on 2007-11-01 by University of Chicago Press

From debates on Capitol Hill to the popular media, Mexican immigrants are the subject of widespread controversy. By 2003, their growing numbers accounted for 28.3 percent of all foreign-born inhabitants of the United States. Mexican Immigration to the United States analyzes the astonishing economic impact of this historically unprecedented exodus. Why do Mexican immigrants gain citizenship and employment at a slower rate than non-Mexicans? Does their migration to the U.S. adversely affect the working conditions of lower-skilled workers already residing there? And how rapid is the intergenerational mobility among Mexican immigrant families? This authoritative volume provides a historical context for Mexican immigration to the U.S. and reports new findings on an immigrant influx whose size and character will force us to rethink economic policy for decades to come. Mexican Immigration to the United States will be necessary reading for anyone concerned about social conditions and economic opportunities in both countries.
